Completing the FAFSA

  • The 2024-25 FAFSA is available

    Please visit studentaid.gov to complete your 2024-25 FAFSA.

  • First-Priority Date Extended

    Because of the delayed launch of the FAFSA and issues with submission, OHIO has extended its first-priority FAFSA filing date to at least March 1. 

Each year, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA serves as the application for all federal, state, and institutional financial aid at Ohio University. Each year, students can file their FAFSA online usually beginning October 1. Launch of the 2024-25 FAFSA was delayed until December 31, 2023. Please visit studentaid.gov to complete your 2024-25 FAFSA.

Need assistance? Get help completing your 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)! Students are encouraged to submit the FAFSA as soon as possible, and the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships wants to help. Attend the FAFSA Completion Workshop on February 18, 2024. Sign up in advance to let us know you're coming! Stop by anytime between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. and bring your laptop.

Those without internet access, can obtain a paper FAFSA by calling the Federal Student Aid Center at 1.800.4FED.AID (1.800.433.3243).

The 2023-24 FAFSA is still available! Complete it as soon as possible.

Items Needed to Complete the FAFSA

  • Social Security Number of Student and Parents of Dependent Students
  • Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. Citizen)
  • Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
  • Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
  • An FSA ID to sign electronically
  • The appropriate federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned based on the FAFSA you are completing

Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool. Using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool reduces the chance of additional information being requested to complete your FAFSA.

Federal School Codes

Students will list the Federal School Code for the campus they plan to attend on the FAFSA. If you are unsure of which campus you plan to attend, please list the Athens campus Federal School Code. All Ohio University Federal School Codes are as follows:

First-Priority Consideration Date

Some forms of federal and institutional financial aid are limited due to funding levels. To be considered for these limited funds, students should complete the FAFSA by OHIO's first-priority consideration date of March 1 (extended!). FAFSA results must be received before or during the time of enrollment to be considered for financial aid. The financial aid year begins in the summer semester and ends in the spring semester.
